Traveling to Mackinac Island is a pleasurable trip through the Great Lakes area. You will drive to Mackinaw City or St. Ignace, where you'll find inexpensive and secure parking. This is where you'll leave your vehicle, as there are no cars allowed on the island!
Ferry boat service is available from morning to night, however you'll want to phone ahead if planning a late arrival. It's a 15 minute boat ride to the downtown docks on the island, then a brief 10 minute walk (or 5 minute horse-drawn taxi ride) to your vacation townhouse.
For off hours or during the winter months, when ferry service is not available, it's a quick 4 minute flight from the St. Ignace airport to the island airport. This commercial air service, provided by Great Lakes Air, is available year-round by reservation. From here you'll take a horse-drawn taxi to the townhouse.
Commercial airline service is available to/from Pellston Airport, located just 16 miles south of Mackinaw City. For private pilots wishing to fly directly to the island, the island airport provides a paved 3,500' lighted runway. (note - there is no fuel available at the island airport).
